Zebras overpower East Enders
PHC 3 St. George’s 0PHC Zebras scored an early goal, then netted twice more in the second half to secure the points at Southampton Oval while St. George’s remain last in the Premier Division following their eighth loss in nine matches.Zebras created some openings right from the outset as Antinori Butterfield put a weak effort straight at ‘keeper Zeko Burgess before captain Cecoy Robinson shot past the far post as PHC looked hungry for goals. They broke the deadlock in the seventh minute when Robinson raced through on the right and supplied the cross for Shakir Smith to sidefoot home at the far post after the St. George’s defence didn’t clear the danger.St. George’s were holding their own in the first half hour as PHC created the more clear cut chancesThe visitors met with strong resistance in the PHC defence whenever they tried to penetrate. Frustration led to the booking of the St. George’s goalkeeper late in the half for foul and abusive language towards his team-mates after he committed an error under pressure.The half closed out with PHC going close to extending their lead through a couple of Shakir Smith chances.Smith and Robinson continued to pose problems on the flanks after the restart as Smith put an effort into the sidenetting following a strong run down the left. Then Robinson went close with a cross from an angle that untouched across the goal.At the other end St. George’s struggled for cohesion between their front pair Jahron Dickinson and Allan Douglas. Coach Cymande Davis, who started in midfield, was replaced in the 58th minute by Jamel Simmons.Less than a minutes later PHC doubled their lead when Marquel Waldron’s firm shot from 25 yards was parried by the ‘keeper above his head before dropping over the line before he could recover.Fullback Johnny Ball nearly set up a third goal when his strong run from left back created an opening before Marco Piper headed over the bar.
