Dominant Teachers still unbeaten
Teachers remain the only undefeated side in Bermuda after a hard-fought victory over Mariners at Malabar last weekend.
Tries from Jeff Sangster and Alvin Harvey were enough to give the team a 12-3 win, and take them tothe top of the table.
In a largely one-sided affair Teachers dominated possession but struggled to break down a determined Mariners side and only had a Sangster try to show for their efforts by half time.
Mariners briefly rallied in the second half with a Mark Pomeroy penalty getting them back to within two points.
Harvey, though, eventually settled the game with a breakaway try that Chris Naylor converted.
In the other men's game on Sunday, Renegades got back to winning ways with a 38-14 win over Police.
Tries from Mariner Jackson, Ian Henderson, Scott Slater, Johannes Engelbrecht, and Paul Dobinson, and a flawless kicking display from Neil MaGuinness, gave the defending champions a first win of the new season.
An under-strength Police side scored two tries of their own through David Pringle and Tom Edwards, but for the second game running were without a front row and forced Renegades to play uncontested scrums.
While no side in the men's rugby has yet truly stamped their authority on the competition, the same cannot be said for the ladies where Renegades are once again sweeping all before them.
They followed up their comprehensive win over Teachers last week by thrashing Police 17-1.
Melissa Field and Laura Haynes top-scored with four tries each, while the other scores came from Amy Harvey (3), Ruth Boo Leston (2), Karen Peckett (2), Maria Dobinson and Dhaksha Kikkeri.
Saphia Tonkin grabbed the lone try for the Police, and even that had a hint of luck about it, with a suspicion that the ball had been grounded too early.
The other game was a much closer affair with Mariners holding out for a narrow 7-5 win over Teachers.
Kim Spencer put Teachers in front, before Mariners quickly responded with well-worked tries from Amanda Swan and Chantal Brown.
Teachers pushed back ahead at the half with scores from Nancy Catellier and Rachel McLoughlin.
Mariners took control after the break with a Jo Turner try added to tries from Brown, Fiona Beckerlegge, Laryssa Yuel and Amy Wolfinger.
Spencer and Jennifer Crawford notch a try apiece for Teachers, but the ladies in green held on.
