The Small Fry and Little Dribbler League opened before a standing room only crowd at the weekend at the Whitney Institute Gym.
Kicking off the proceedings was a match involving Teals against Grays, a match eventually won by Teals, 15-12.
A defensive affair from the outset, Grays took the early lead 8-4 after the first quarter as Blake Raynor, Kingsley Mundy and Martin brothers, Kevin and Dana, all scored.
No team managed to find the basket in the second quarter, but Scott Fletcher of Teals discovered the touch in the third and fourth quarters, registering seven points down the stretch to allow for the victory.
Fletcher's heroics more than offset the four points by Mark Goodwin of Grays.
The second game of the night appeared in stark contrast to the earlier affair as Rose exploded to a 32-10 triumph over Light Blue.
Man-of-the-match Jimmy Lee Weaver produced a virtuoso shooting display, exploding for 12 points, four in each quarter.
Assisting the rampant Weaver were team-mates Jabari Furbert and Teddy Terceira with eight points apiece.
Action in the Little Dribblers League had Black edge Aqua 17-16 in a thrilling affair featuring great defence.
Kai Musson scored six points to lead Black, while Kondwani Williams tallied four in support. Derek Lindo was the top shooter for Aqua with six.
The other Little Dribblers match saw Greens bounce back from a scoreless first quarter to down Whites 21-12 as Azeem Pitcher notched eight points to lead all scorers.
As a new wrinkle the league scheduled a special exhibition game for Saturday night between the two leagues -- Small Fry versus Little Dribblers.
Matches are handicapped with the Small Frys starting with 10 points already to their credit and shooting at a lower basket than their counterparts.
However, what was not counted against were the skills on Ben Barclay, who proved unstoppable, posting 20 points for the Little Dribblers in leading them to a 32-20 victory.
BOWLING BOW Miller High Life League leaders Tools and Equipment continue to `roll' as the halfway mark approaches.
Latest action saw second placed Marlboro as fodder for the defending champions, with the latter justifying their position by virtue of a 201 -91 mauling.
After losing the first game Equipment came roaring back to take 15 of the next 18 points and total pins for a comfortable victory.
Conrad Lister led the way for the winners with the night's second high game (237) and top series (631), while Ty Williams aided with a 232 game, third high. All helped Equipment to the high team game and series, 985 and 2,858.
Meanwhile, Thompson's Towing regained third place through an emphatic 231 -61 triumph against Dr. Pepper as Carson Bean's third high series 592 paced Thompson's to a second high team series 2,685.
