Keeper Hall signs with Northampton

Freddy Hall: Could be playing in England's League Two after signing with Northampton Town.

Bermuda goalkeeper Freddy Hall has finally realised his ambitions of playing professional football in England after signing for League Two side Northampton Town. The 26-year-old’s move to the UK comes a day after fellow shot-stopper Dale Eve penned Academy terms for Premier League team Stoke City.Hall, a former Plymouth Argyle trialist, joins the Cobblers on a one-year deal but is still waiting for international clearance.Richard Todd, who coached Hall at St. George’s, said the keeper’s heart had always been set on playing in the UK and believes he will thrive in the professional environment.“This is a great opportunity for Freddy and I’m absolutely delighted for him,” said Colts’ head coach. “Freddy has a great work ethic, a good attitude, and I think he will only get better now he’s a professional.“A couple of years’ ago he had the chance to play in the MLS when he was invited to a combine, but his desire has always been to play in England.”Hall was due to return to Plymouth last January with a view to signing a contract after impressing the club’s coaches during his pre-season trial last summer.Plymouth’s dire financial woes at the time put the skids on that arrangement but, undeterred, the Bermuda international decided to return to the UK regardless in his pursuit of a pro deal.Todd hopes Hall’s success story will inspire young players on the Island to follow in his footsteps and chase their own football dreams.“Freddy made a decision to move to the UK in the spring when it was difficult to sign for anyone, but he kept on training and I’m glad it’s paid off for him,” said Todd.“Last season he worked with our young keepers and he’s always been a great role model. We’ve now got Freddy playing in England and another young keeper, Dale Eve, coming up behind him that can only be good for Bermuda football.”Hall, who has impressed Northampton’s coaches during pre-season training, was a regular for Bermuda Hogges last summer. He was joined yesterday at Sixfields Stadium by former Burton winger Lewis Young and ex-Cardiff midfielder Nick McCoy, who have also agreed one-year deals.
