"Fabulously eclectic" is how I would describe the Bermuda Collective Fashion Show.

Models strutted before a packed crowd which included new Premier Paula Cox on Thursday night wearing the collections of Bermudian designers Amethyst, Ashley Aitken, Dana Cooper, Dean Williams, Talibah, Torri Simons and Shay Ford.

A catwalk had been constructed in the Bermuda Society of Arts gallery specifically for the event, which was organised by the charity's co-president, photographer Charles Anderson.

Torri Simons' collection, 'Be Teased', featured an assortment of men's undervests.

Some were embellished in gold-coloured rock or beach glass, others featured floral appliqués.

Next up was Dean Williams' line, 'Definitions by Dean'.

The designer paired caplets with evening wear. Some worked, others not so well the contrast between a soft evening gown and a woollen caplet contrasted heavily.

I think they would've married better had they been paired with a more tailored item or a hip-hugging shift dress.

His sheer palazzo pants worked exceedingly well however, and his sunset-inspired flowing frock was a dynamo.

I look forward to seeing more from him in the future, as his work was well executed and beautifully finished.

Dana Cooper's 'Bay Grape Leaf' collection had me wishing it was still summer or that I could fly off to warmer climes.

As you might guess, the line features Bermuda's bay grape trees but these soft pastels include a red spine instead of green leaves.

The line will be sold by Saks Fifth Avenue as of February.

The collection is handmade, hand-batiked and produced in Bali. It includes chic beach ponchos, scarves and sexy sarongs.

Talibah reconstructed denim remnants to an awesome effect. Her use of fabric on the right and wrong sides in a constructed mini skirt and a panelled mini dress was very creative. My only complaint is that it would've been better for the designer to use a flap zipper rather than the standard sewing of the zipper, as it was a different colour from the rest of the garment. My apologies if this was done for effect.

Her use of a paisley print fabric for a mini skirt with a bubbled edge made me wish I had the figure to don it. It was a hot number and one of my favourite pieces in her collection.

Other garments in Talibah's collection included an elasticised-edged halter dress which would suit almost any figure, a bodice made out of patched denim, and a denim patchwork skirt that was paired with an army fatigue shirt with sparkles.

The lined bias-cut eyelet skirt that Shay Ford constructed felt like a Marilyn Monroe dress in mini. It accentuated the waistline, while offering volume to those without flatter derrières.

This skirt was also the bottom half of a dress that was extremely adorable. The dress featured a draping bow that just added that little something extra to the fitted bodice.

Her body suit was seriously delightful, but perhaps the zipper would have been better placed on the side, rather than through the centre front of the garment.

Her style is a mixture of 40s and 50s vintage glam with a modern twist and that was certainly seen in her 'Renew' collection.

The young designer shows a great deal of promise and I can't wait to see a more finished collection.

East India was the inspiration behind Ashley Aitken's 'Elle Tee Mumbai' collection.

The designer used gold-trimmed silks usually seen in saris, as well as chiffon. Her aim was to recreate the essence of the Indian woman into designs by cutting and reconstructing the saris that she has collected.

Her first item was a mock-wrap skirt in silk that offered a slight glimpse of the model's leg. Several other exciting pieces that were seductively elegant followed.

Amethyst's collection only brings a few words to the fore elegance at its very best. I have watched this designer over the past eight years and this, in my opinion, was his best ever offering. His simple garments were made with all women in mind for many of the designs it wouldn't matter whether you had a 36 or a 48-inch hip.

He used a jersey that was simply designed to track the body's form. It offered volume where it was needed and an explosion of va-va-voom in places usually hidden.

Amethyst has grown so much, and my guess is that this collection will simply sell out for the coming seasons.

Hats off to Charles Anderson for a job well done in organising such a fantastic invitational.
