2.7 tons of litter picked up in weekend cleanup
More than 230 volunteers helped Keep Bermuda Beautiful by picking up a total of nearly three tonnes of litter.
And along with the litter, volunteers recovered several truck loads of larger waste, including refrigerators, motorcycles and crates as part of the charities annual Marine and Coastal Clean-up Day.
Consultant for the charity Anne Harvey said that she was impressed by the turnout, which included members of the Devonshire parish council, a team of police officers, and groups of students representing Northlands and Somersfield Academy.
"We're really pleased at the popularity of this annual event," she said. "We know we're making a difference.
"We bagged 2.7 tonnes of litter, and that's without adding in the weight of the bikes and crates we pulled out of the water."
This year 27 different areas were targeted, many selected based of recommendations from the public.
