Police call for better road sense, urge public to wear reflective clothing at night
More than 50 road accidents were reported last week, 14 of them resulting in injury.
As Police revealed the statistics they also repeated a call for greater road safety sense from the public and for those who use the roads for walking and exercise to wear reflective clothing when possible.
Over the course of the week there were 38 damage only accidents, four people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and there were 14 injury-related accidents.
The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the Island's roads.
Additionally, those travelling in cars are urged to use their seatbelts at all times and those travelling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.
There were 12 vehicles taken without their owner's consent, and only two were recovered.
Of the vehicles removed, five were from Pembroke, two from Devonshire and one each from St. George's, Southampton, Smith's, Sandy's and Hamilton parishes.
The Bermuda Police Service would also like to remind members of the public who use the roads for exercising walking, running, pedal cycling in the early hours of the morning or at night that they should be wearing either a reflective vest or items of clothing with reflective material on them. In addition they are recommended to keep a single file and utilise the sidewalk where possible.
Also, pedal cyclists should ensure their cycles have the appropriate reflectors on them to ensure that other road users are aware of your presence on the roads.
