Shorthanded Police collar the Mariners

Police II 24 Mariners II 5 Despite starting with only 12 men, Police managed to hold off Mariners and win this second team match-up at Nationals on Saturday.

Police second row forward Dana George notched the first try after securing clean lineout ball near the Greens' goal-line before powering over.

Mariners suffered through careless errors and Police scored a second try through flanker Greg Lunn who collected a loose ball from a lineout and touched down under the posts. Fly half Ian Jamieson kicked the conversion to give his side a 12-point lead at the interval.

Police continued to press and their hard work paid off when flanker Nick Pedro scored. Mariners replied with a try but Police captain Jamieson scored a final try and conversion to take the score to 24-5 at the final whistle.

Teachers II 27 Renegades II 12 Teachers leapt out to a fast start and never looked back in this convincing second team victory.

In the opening minutes, Reds' flanker Daniel Bucher collected a loose lineout ball and scored a try which was converted by Kevin Harris. And the Teachers' forwards quickly seized control with solid set pieces and loose play.

Fly half Harris kicked a drop goal and lock David Beau scored a converted try from a short range penalty which gave the Reds a 17-0 lead at the half.

Renegades replied after the break with flanker Gary Cooper getting his side on the scoreboard with a try which fly half Tim Boynton converted.

But Teachers' captain Jonathon Lightbourne restored his side's advantage with a try after the Teachers' pack stole the ball on a Renegades put-in near their line.

Harris missed the conversion but notched a try shortly afterwards when prop Freedom Burrows' break put Teachers in scoring position.

Renegades' centre Alan Mackie replied with a try from a penalty five yards off the Reds' goal-line.

Bermuda Rugby Football Union action continues this weekend, with first teams playing on Saturday and the seconds on Sunday.
