Bowling League has a ball!
close, organisers and students alike are already looking forward to another.
The League, which began in September, was founded in response to a popular summer bowling programme at Warwick Lanes for students aged three through 15.
Throughout the season, some 60 young bowlers participated in the League and met every Saturday between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.
"As an extra-curricular activity, bowling encourages teamwork and self-confidence,'' League president Leonard DeSilva said.
"Bowling helps the children strive for excellence because they are always improving.'' He added: "My son wanted to bowl and since bowling had been a key part of my growing up, I agreed to help out. Besides, I thought it was time I gave back to the community.'' The students were divided into two groups -- the PeeWees and the Juniors -- and were dedicated to improving their game while having fun.
The weekly fee for PeeWees was $5 for two games and the Juniors paid $7 for three games. The cost of bowling shoes was included.
During the season, the youngsters had the chance to take part in three tournaments, winning trophies for their efforts.
The outstanding bowlers in the Juniors High Game Scratch and High Game Series competitions were Hannah Collins, Johnathan Davis, Chris Flood, Stacy Oughton, Jonathan Tumbridge.
The first place team was Striker One, which consisted of Ryan Price, Lindsey Walker, Gregory White and Terai Wilson.
Nothing To Lose with teammates Lindsey Cummings, Matthew Haynes, Sean Terceira and Desmond White came second.
And third place went to Looking Good, whose members were Gary Blackwell, Collisha Burchall, Johnathan Davis and Trina Williams.
The second tournament, the Singles Championships, saw Trina Williams and Angelique Tankard tie for first place in the girls category.
Samantha Brown and Stephanie Corday placed second and third respectively.
The boys division was won by Rick Flood, followed by second place Gary Blackwell and Coleman Mills in third.
The Adult/Junior Tournament, which was divided into PeeWee and Junior categories, saw kids and grown-ups forming teams.
The PeeWee group was won by Ryanne and Chris Bardgett with Nesta, Leona and Michael Wellman taking second. Devonte Adams and Don Phillip placed third.
Lindsey and Wendy Cummings took first place in the Junior category while Michael and Melvin Musson placed second. Joshua and Cathee Tumbridge came third.
Registration for the upcoming season will begin in September. Further announcements will be advertised in The Royal Gazette closer to the time.
