Forgesson, Adams first in five-miler

conditions to register comfortable victories in the respective men's and women's divisions of yesterday's MRM Five Flat Miles race at the west end.

With many of the top men's runners, including Kavin Smith, Jay Donawa, Tracy Wright and Jamal Hart, absent from the field, Forgesson led from start to finish, clocking 26 minutes, 28 seconds on a course which took competitors from Watford Bridge out to and around Dockyard before returning into a strong wind to Somerset Police Club.

A much better race developed for second place as the continually improving Andrew Doble produced a second half surge to beat David Dunwoody.

Doble was timed in an impressive 27.10 with Dunwoody following in 27.45.

Evergreen Master Harry Patchett took fourth place in 28.24 and Mark Stileman fifth in 28.38.

Like Forgesson, Adams also controlled the women's race despite the presence of track star Jennifer Fisher and Julia Hawley.

Adams was 12th overall in the 130-strong field, clocking 29.54, more than a minute and a half ahead of Fisher (31.28). Hawley took third in 31.45.

Jane Christie maintained her crown as top women's master, finishing fourth in 33.39.

In the veterans' division, Peter Lever led the men in 32.14 and Dorothy Gilchrist the women in 40.46.

Leading juniors were Kenton Trott (34.52) and Caroline Davies (36.22).

This Sunday road racing continues with the annual Lindo's five miler.

Full final results of last week's Telford Mile junior race series, held at National Stadium, can now be seen at the Pro Shop or Sportseller in Hamilton.
