Tourist is fined $3,300 after drugs are discovered in luggage
A tourist was fined $3,300 after admitting importing both cannabis and ketamine into the Island.
Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates' Court yesterday that Zsuzsanna Pacziga, 36, of New York, came to the Island on a commercial flight on March 20.
She cleared Customs and in the baggage hall was selected for a secondary inspection.
Mr. Mahoney said during the inspection, a Customs officer found a white cleanser bottle with a yellow liquid inside and a foreign object. The officer then searched a small make-up bag and found a small pipe inside.
Pacziga was arrested and told the officers the drugs were cannabis and ketamine. The items were seized and placed in plastic evidence bags.
The drugs were analysed and found to be 1.89 grams of cannabis and 1.33 grams of ketamine.
Speaking to the court, the defendant said: "I deeply need to apologise to the Island of Bermuda for what I have done. I had no intention of doing anything with the objects. I am very ashamed to be here holding up your time. I apologise for my actions."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave Pacziga a $1,500 fine for each drug charge and a $300 fine for the pipe.
