Clay house offers soft music evening

Gracing the night club's stage are Bermudian born Mrs. Patricia Nicholas, nee Crockwell, singing jazz and world renowned classical Chinese pianist Mr.
Masanobu Ikemiya.
Mrs. Nicholas' singing career began in 1992 after studying under the guidance of well-known Bermudian classical jazz pianist the late Mr. Lance Hayward.
She attended the H.B. Studio in Greenwich Village where she focused her attention on "The Singer In Performance'' class under the direction of Ms.
Arabella HungYung.
Mrs. Nicholas became a member of the Lance Hayward Singers in 1991. She has performed in several New York night clubs and is currently at "La Cave On First'' under the musical direction of Mr. Frank Owens.
Mr. Ikemiya has received worldwide attention for his many concerts throughout the former Soviet Union, Japan, the United States, Canada and Mexico, and Portugal.
Born in Manchuria, China, to Japanese parents, Mr. Ikemiya grew up in Kyoto.
He frequently performs in Japan where he has worked with the Japan Philharmonic String Quartet and performed with Maine's Portland String Quartet in programmes of American works.
Mr. Ikemiya is one of the dominant exponents of his adopted American genre, ragtime.
He frequently plays at the at the major ragtime festivals, including the prestigious Scott Joplin Festival.
His programme, The Classic/Ragtime Connection, demonstrates the historical and thematic connections between European classical repertoire and the first indigenous American musical form, and has been recorded on cassette.
Mr. Ikemiya has been the recipient of several honours and awards for his work.
The show which starts at 8 p.m. on Sunday will also feature local acts.
