In a season both teams would rather forget, yesterday's match was almost unforgettable.

Playing with the same intensity as they would washing dishes, PHC and Vasco produced the highest scoring game of the season -- and one of the strangest.

Vasco, their hopes for a second straight league title extinguished when Devonshire Colts won the previous night, put an exclamation mark on a bizarre day when skipper Earl Richardson lofted a 30-yard shot over the outstretched arms of keeper Jay Smith for the winning goal with two minutes to play.

PHC, playing for no better than seventh place, led 4-2 after 60 minutes and 5-3 after the 75th before collapsing under the weight of the vaunted Vasco attack.

Vasco assistant coach/full back Donovan Livingston said the club's only goal on the day was to "relax and have fun.'' That meant shuffling players and positions, even putting star goalkeeper Timmy Figureido at left back for the second half.

After getting two goals by Figureido in the first half, PHC quickly slipped two past his replacement, Paul Towlson, in the first 15 minutes of the second.

Sheridan Ming and Stephen Astwood did the honours.

Vasco's Sammy Swan and PHC's Dana Rawlins then swapped goals before Vasco scored three times in the final ten minutes. First Dwight Basden pounded in a rebound just as he was brought down on the goal-line.

Then Kentoine Jennings took advantage of another PHC defensive breakdown four minutes later, easily pushing a shot into the open goal on a two-on-none break. Smelling blood, Vasco got the winner when Richardson took a few steps past midfield and sailed a shot just under the bar.

Richardson and Swan scored first-half Vasco goals; Dowling and Astwood replied for PHC.

Dandy Town 0 North Village 1 North Village snatched a late winner at St.John's Field yesterday to settle the issue in this lacklustre preamble to the Friendship Trophy final.

Red Devils' midfield ace Nakia Smith powered home an 83rd minute header just as it seemed a stalemate would result.

The match began as a meaningless affair with each team merely going through the motions.

There was little to entertain in the first half, the most outstanding moment coming in the 35th minute. Kacy Simons rattled the crossbar with a rasping 22-yard drive following a move started by lively winger Larance Durham on the left flank and involving neat, one-touch passing between he, Derek Bell and Elliott Jennings before Simons unleashed.

Action picked up in the second half, with Village dominating the first 15 minutes of play, Michael Hansey having a header cleared off the line in the 57th minute, while Jennings raked a difficult chance wide five minutes later.

Town would storm back with Carlos Smith forcing goalkeeper Dwayne Adams into a foot save after 68 minutes. Finally the deadlock was broken after Durham forced 'keeper Lightbourne to scramble away his close range header for a corner. Smith, left all alone near the penalty spot, made no mistake in directing the set piece taken by Kevin Jennings into the roof of the net, beyond the flailing hands of Lightbourne.
