As expected, Andreas Lewin and Andrew Henderson maintained their leads to win their respective classes of the Sandys Boat Club Fall Series on Sunday.
Henderson was not content with defending his series lead for the W.A. Neasham Cup and extended that lead as much as possible by winning all five races in the Optimist Dinghy class. Closest rival, Travis Burland, did not help his cause by missing the first two races of the afternoon and then was unable to make up any ground on Henderson in the remaining three races.
Bobby Beale and Aaron Carvelho also took advantage of Burland's early absence to close the points gap, but Burland still managed to place second in the series ahead of Beale in third place and Carvelho in fourth.
Shaun Johnson and Michael Charlton continued their battle for fifth place, which Johnson finally won, beating out Charlton by only two points (over the 27-race series).
The Fall Series for the W.A. Neasham Cup also served as a qualifying series for Sandys Boat Club sponsorship to participate in the Orange Bowl Regatta in Miami at the end of December. By virtue of his win, Henderson will be offered an airline ticket to Miami, courtesy of Sandys Boat Club.
In the Laser class, Andreas Lewin also extended his series points lead, winning six races, and placing second four times to win the Ken Hall Cup.
Lewin was pushed to the limit by Christian Luthi, who won four races and placed second four times.
Luthi could have tied Lewin on points for the day if he had won the final race, but Lewin held firm and beat Luthi by two-and-a-half points. Dave Moore had a strong showing, very rarely finishing outside of third or fourth place, and was rewarded with a third place overall for the day.
Moore, Michael Siese, Martin Siese, Peter Bromby and Michael Taylor were all tightly bunched, usually just off the pace from the Lewin/Luthi match-race.
Through consistency Moore held off the pack by just three points with Michael Siese taking fourth place, two points ahead of brother Martin.
SWIMMING SW The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association will be holding a free try-out session for those interested in being a part of the Waterpolo League on December 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the BASA pool at Saltus.
Included will be demonstrations, instruction and games, with the opportunity to register for the season.
BOWLING BOW Pembroke Juniors rolled a top team series of 2,637 and the second high game of 987 -- but still could not ward off defeat against Mini Forwarders in latest action in the Barritt's Sportsmen's League.
Woody Jones led the Juniors individual effort with the top individual series and game of 625 and 267 but it was Mini Forwarders who had the last laugh after winning the match 15-12 as Casey Burgess and Norris Caines were their top bowlers with a 557 series and 219 game respectively. Gilbert DeCosta had a 560 third high series in a losing cause.
Mini Forwarders also got in on the team honours, rolling a 915 third high game and 2,531 series which was fourth best.
Young Blood also won 15-12, getting past Warwick Whites, while Buy and Sell had the night's biggest win, stomping over Young Men's Social Club 23-4 after rolling the second high team series 2,614 and fourth game of 896.
