Returning to the Island for the first time since 1990, Boys Of The Lough will perform their Irish and Scottish folk songs, in the Bermuda Folk Club's biggest event of the year so far.

The band have played all over the world recently appearing in the USA, Finland, Sweden, France, the Canary Islands and many festivals in Great Britain and Ireland.

They are led by Shetland Islander Aly Bain, regarded by many as the finest fiddle player in the world, who has his own UK TV series.

Englishman David Richardson plays concertina, mandolin and cittern, along with Cathal McConnell playing flute and whistle, Christy O'Leary on uillean pipes, tin whistle and vocals, and John Leary on guitar and piano, all from Ireland.

They have toured for over 25 years in a mission to gain more respect for traditional music.

The current line-up is viewed as the most musically diverse since the band's inception and certainly covers most of the British Isles.

While the Boys Of the Lough have many noted recordings, it is their live performances that have gained them a worldwide audience.

Tickets are selling well for the Thursday and Friday evening performances according to Mr. Mick Burgess, the folk club's press officer.

Mr. Burgess said: "The Boys Of The Lough last played Bermuda in March 1990.

We had one sold-out show at the Old Colony Club, and ticket demand necessitated a move to the larger City Hall venue for the second show, which was also sold out. Obviously the Boys have no shortage of fans in Bermuda.

"This year, with two shows at City Hall we hope that old friends and new will be coming our for an evening of guaranteed top-class entertainment.'' Tickets are on sale at the box office from noon to 2 p.m., daily.
