the Harbour Amateur Swimming Club held its 19th annual general meeting on Saturday evening.

The trophy is awarded to the senior swimmer who, by example and direct interest, has encouraged younger swimmers. Smatt, 15, was also elected captain of the boys team by a vote of his fellow swimmers, while Trevor Ferguson will act as the vice captain. Tiffany Gosling will captain the girls, assisted by Ashley Dickinson.

Two other promising young swimmers were also honoured on the weekend, as the Cann Trophy, in memory of Joy Cann, was awarded to Jimmy Perreira, 12, and 10-year-old Travis Tucker received the Taft Trophy.

The Cann Trophy is awarded to the swimmer who has shown the most improvement in swim times during the season which ran from March to November. Perreira's times improved 18 percent.

Tucker received the Taft Trophy for the junior swimmer who best demonstrates commitment, effort and sportsmanship.

Age group trophies were also awarded to swimmers showing the most improvement over the year in their respective age groups. Amongst the girls the recipients were Ashley Aitken (eight and under), Keira Aitken (9-10), Elisha Miller (11-12), Jennifer Dickinson (13-14) and Ashley Johanson (15 and over).

Alexander Collis (eight and under), Chris King (9-10), Matthew Hammond (11-12), Craig Ferguson (13-14) and Sean Smatt (15 and over) were the outstanding boys.

Meanwhile Carlton Johnson was re-elected as president of Harbour Club while the other elected members of the executive were David Miller (vice president(, Terry Durrant (corresponding secretary), Sarah Fox (recording secretary) and Sylvia Card (fund raising).
