?Come clean on BHP project? Furbert urges Government
Shadow Housing Minister Wayne Furbert has called for the Government to come clean on the Bermuda Homes for People project which has been declared insolvent.
Landowner Bermuda Land Development Company is set to take over the 198-home building project in Southside after hotel magnate Clifford Schorer pulled out of the project claiming expenses of $733,000.
Mr. Furbert said: ?The PLP continues to evade the serious questions surrounding the embattled Bermuda Homes for People project and continues to try and rebuild confidence after being caught yet again deceiving the public.
?The fact is the first public/private partnership of the Social Agenda is technically insolvent meanwhile the PLP seem more interested in concealing the truth. In fact the Bermuda Homes for People project is swiftly becoming the No Homes for Bermudian People project.
?After repeatedly telling us that Berkeley was on time and on budget, after admitting they had to deceive us to win the 2003 general election, after the unethical conduct by members of his government during the BHC scandal and after being caught lying about the true status of the Bermuda Homes for People project, we can understand why the people have lost faith in the Premier?s ability to tell the truth.?
He called on Premier Scott to give the country honest answers about the time tabling of the project and explain what agreements are in place between the Bermuda Government and BLDC or BHP?
?How could the PLP allow families to deposit their hard-earned money into a project that they knew was in jeopardy? It?s time for the Premier to be ?the man? and stand up and be accountable to the people of Bermuda.?
Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent did not return calls from .
Government has previously said building would still start in May or June at the site at Ship?s Wharf.
