Blair?s big finish

Teenager Blair Marshall birdied the final hole at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to break into the top ten of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.

The 15-year-old finished joint seventh in a field of 139 from 25 nations with scores of 73, 74, and 76.

Earlier in the summer, Marshall, who finished seventh overall and top junior in the Bermuda Amateur 72-hole Strokeplay Championship, had placed fifth and sixth respectively in two Southeastern Junior Tour events, the Huntsville Classic in Alabama, and the William Bryan Memorial at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Fiddick shines at Worlds

Local runner Victoria Fiddick enjoyed an excellent campaign in Canada last weekend at the 2005 World Masters Games.

Competing in Edmonton, she showed her versatility, excelling on both the track and road.

Fiddick tackled the 5,000 metres first on the track and, though not totally happy with her race, performed well enough to grab a silver medal in 19 minutes, 30.15 seconds.

The 39-year-old returned the following day to match that showing with second place in her age group and third overall in the half-marathon among a field of 190 runners.
