Evans finishes third in NCAAs
Bermudian track star Aaron Evans earned All-American honours after finishing third in the 800 metres in the NCAA Finals last night.
University of Georgia sophomore Evans, who has broken the Bermuda 800 metres record twice this year, finished with a time of 1:46:87 in Eugene, Oregon, 0.87 second short of his own record.
According to the University of Georgia website, the University of Oregon’s Andrew Wheating finished first with a time of 1:45:69, while the University of Virginia’s Robby Andrews finished second with a 1:46:83. This was Wheating’s second consecutive NCAA title in the 800m; Andrews is the current indoor champion.
Aaron basically ran an ideal race and probably did as well as expected in that situation, UGA head track & field coach Wayne Norton told . There was the last indoor and outdoor national champion and an Olympian in the race and I told him that what he accomplished today came against big-time talent … Aaron finished up as one of the top guys in the country and that’s where he deserves to be.
