Breaking News: Alleged burglar attacked by homeowners, residents claim
A 43-year-old man was attacked by a group of men after trying to break into a Loyal Hill residence.
The man, who is known to Police, was unconscious when Police arrived shortly after 10 a.m. today.
A woman at the scene who provided medical assistance before ambulance workers arrived said he was bleeding and had a head wound.
Marvin Woolridge was not at the scene when the attempted break-in happened but said his 24-year-old niece had caught the 43-year-old climbing through a window.
The man ran off. He then allegedly broke into two houses before a group of men in the neighbourhood caught him, Mr. Woolridge said.
“That is what happens when you break into people’s homes,” he added.
Another resident said she saw the man running from a home and had heard he had tried to break into a few houses.
A Police spokesman said: "Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it is alleged that the victim, a 43-year-old Sandys parish man, was discovered attempting to burglarize an area home.
"The man was apparently injured by members of the public as he tried to flee the scene on foot and has been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway."
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
