Customer representative Derek Scott said: "We've always been supportive of the BFA and the Island's footballing endeavours. We were very active during Bermuda's World Cup qualifying campaign and this indicates our continued support.'' He said the recent difficulties in Bermuda's domestic soccer had not put the company off providing its backing. "That is a separate issue from what we are trying to achieve,'' he said. "We are very keen to see more international soccer in Bermuda.'' Ten teams will aim to raise around $1600 for charity in a tournament being staged at Shelly Bay tomorrow. The clubs, from the Sunday League of teams have been holding the competition for several years, raising $1330 for the Special Olympics in 1996, $1800 for the Committee of 25 in 1997 and $1600 for the Bermuda Diabetic Association last year.

This year's nominated charity is PALS and each team will be expected to provide a minimum of $150 towards the cause, said organiser Mark Evans.

The action runs from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

MIXED FORTUNES FOR SQUASH LOCALS SQU Mixed fortunes for squash locals The local boys had mixed fortunes against the OBM tournament Men's A Division round robin.

Club champion Tommy Sherratt stormed to a 9-1 first game win over Australia's Murray Russell. But Russell stepped up his game in the second to take it 9-6 after being 4-1 down. The court temperature then seemed to hit Russell who, sapped of energy, lost the next two 9-4 9-1. Nick Kyme's aggressive style shone through only in patches against England's Duleep Adihetty, taking the first and third games 10-8 and 9-6. But the experienced Adihetty took advantage of Kyme's loose periods, using accurate drop shots to help him take the other three convincingly.

Mel Caines put up a spirited performance against Paul Ansdell but went down in three games.

Meanwhile in the Ladies A Division club champion Janine Keeble won her opening match in the round robin final with a 9-5 9-5 9-1 victory over Lily Khaw.

Denise Kyme secured her place in the play off with a three-game win over Eva Turner.

Local DJ Donovan Furbert took Mark Griffin, a member of the Malibar Squash Club, to four games in the Men's E Division before submitting while Kevin Harris marched past Stewart Osborne, dropping just four points. Tim Viney knocked out Cory Powell in three games.

In Men's G Division, Nigel Henderson and Donato Sgobba had an exhausting battle before Henderson clinched it 9-10 9-6 9-0 9-7 and in Ladies C Sheila Mayers also won a semi-final place with a 9-5 9-3 9-5 triumph over the gutsy Jane Ingle.
