93rd woman, Crown counsel Cindy Clarke, called to the Bermuda Bar.

The ceremony included Attorney General Dame Lois Browne Evans, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner and Director of Public Prosecutions Khamisi Tokunbo.

Mr. Tokunbo recalled the days when he taught the "outstanding student'' at the Bermuda College and said she had an eagerness to learn unlike anyone he had seen.

And he admitted to those in attendance that Ms Clarke promised that one day she intended to become the first female DPP.

Ms Clarke, 25, began her road to law by attending Warwick Academy and Bermuda College.

She continued her education abroad at Trent University where she received a BA in English. She then travelled to Kent University in England where she obtained her law degree.

Ms Clarke has received experience during her tenure in the profession by working with firms such as Conyers, Dill & Pearman, Appleby, Spurling & Kempe and Mello Jones & Martin.

An accomplished violinist, Ms Clarke thanked Mr. Tokunbo and all in attendance for their support and well wishes.

"There are many people in attendance that I want to thank,'' she said, "but I owe a great deal of gratitude to my parents Garry and Renee.

"I also want to thank my colleagues at the DPP, because they are seven of the most intelligent barristers that I have had the pleasure to work with.'' Justice Norma Wade-Miller who presided over the ceremony, welcomed Ms Clarke to the Bermuda Bar and said: "You've worked very hard to get to this stage and I'm sure you will continue to do so. You are thorough, courteous and efficient and with these traits you will continue to go far.

"The demands on lawyers are very great, but I know you will rise to the challenge.'' Proud as can be: Crown counsel Cindy Clarke was called to the Bermuda Bar recently, in a Supreme Court ceremony packed with family and friends.
