KPMG junior mile series finale
The final race in the KPMG Magical Mile Junior Running Series takes place this Sunday at the Pacer's Onion Series Track meet.
More than 100 junior runners enjoyed the new "KPMG Round the Grounds" cross country race on January 27 - a picturesque mile loop around the Botanical Gardens - organised by the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club.
All juniors who entered either the Front Street Mile Trials or the KPMG Round the Grounds race are eligible for the series. Athletes must complete two out of three races to be in the running for age group prizes and draw prizes.
In the 8-10 age group Justin Ferreira and Paul Smith, who were neck to neck at the finish of the Round the Grounds race, will both be seeking a first place finish to win their age category. Ferreira won the Front Street Mile trial in December while Smith won the Round the Grounds race by the narrowest margin.
Prizes are awarded to the top five boys and girls in each age group. Only five points separate Aaliyah Nolan, leading the 8-10 age group from Jordan Bascome, who won the Botanical Gardens race.
Winner of the junior section of last Sunday's Butterfield and Vallis 1.6 mile race, Dage Minors has two victories in the KPMG series and therefore is the winner in his 11-12 age category. The series comprises best two out of three finishes to establish podium winners. Nakeno Creighton is in second place, Conor Smith in third.
Jazmine Outerbridge leads the girls 11-12 with 70 points, followed by Rachel Fox with 60 points.
Ryan Furbert, who led the pack in the Botanical Gardens, is out in front in terms of points in the 13-15 group, with Juma Mouchette second.
Ashley Berry and Izabella Arnold are tied for first place in the girls 13-15.
Sunday's race will take place at the National Stadium at 12 noon. Registration and number pick up takes place at the stadium at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group after the race at about 1 p.m.
For the series, points are calculated according to the following criteria: runners who finish in 8th position or below receive five points while 1st position wins 40, 2nd wins 35, 3rd wins 30, 4th 25, 5th 20, 6th 15, 7th 10.
The Series' prize presentation will be held at KPMG's Par-la-Ville Road offices on Thursday 21st at 5:30 p.m. Winners will be notified.
