Shop for the National Trust
forget about the Christian spirit of giving. If you shop at the National Trust Gift Shop on Reid Street, the Trustworthy Shop , you will be giving for a good cause.
Patsy Phillips, Chairman of Trustworthy Shop, explained, "We use every penny that we take in and give it to the National Trust. In turn they use this money toward the restoration of historic buildings or preserve open spaces which are so desperately needed for children.
"The shop was an idea of mine and we first opened our doors at Waterville, the National Trust's headquarters in November, 1990 under Katheryn Brown. A year and a half ago they opened a second store in the National Trust museum in the old Globe Hotel, St. George's.
They have two workshops that make gifts for their shops and they buy local handcrafted gifts. Some of the merchandise is made especially for them such as the navy blue umbrellas with the Bermuda palmetto and the Bermuda cedar work.
Presently they have many Christmas items. On an average they have donated $25,000 per year to the National Trust. Ms. Phillips, concluded, "We are very proud of this when you consider that at the same time we have opened a second shop and moved, all of which costs money. Of course, everything is done by our 40 wonderful volunteers.''
