Smith stars in All-Star affair
Bermuda's Tristan Smith scored one goal and created another for Vermont against New Hampshire in the Lions Twin State Soccer Cup.
The 18-year-old, who attends St.Johnsbury Academy, represented Vermont in last month's 36th annual encounter between the two teams and was voted the MVP.
Smith, a Somerset Trojans product, scored early in the second half before he was taken down in the box to earn his side a penalty. The game was played at Castleton State College and ended in a 3-3 draw.
"I love this game, I want to help out the charity, the Lions," he told Burlington FreePress.com
"I was kind of surprised I got the award. I'm happy and thankful for a nice day. I'm sure my parents are happy that I got it too," said Smith, who was watched by his father, Kevin Smith, and grandfather Vernall Adderley.
"They like watching me play. I tried to play as hard as I can. I wanted to thank everybody."
Smith attended St.Johnbury for three years and will continue his education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, where he will carry on playing.
n The Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) teams got off to mixed starts against Peckham Town's under-10 and under-13 teams with a win and a loss earlier this week.
The under-10s recorded a 3-1 win with goals by Jacob Greene, Kane Crichlow and Enrique Russell, while the under-13s lost 4-3 with the goals coming from Tyriko Williams, Nicholas Araujo and Ryan Parris.
In the under-13 match, the BBFS were caught sleeping and were down 3-0 inside the first 20 minutes.
The physical play of Peckham, took the under-13s by surprise but Williams managed to pull one back before the interval.
Peckham added a fourth goal inside of three minutes of the restart, before Araujo and Parris made it 4-3.
