Pembroke teenager was targeted by gunman again
A 17-year-old targeted in a shooting on June 16 was shot at again on Monday night.
The teenager was not injured in the latest incident, which took place outside his family home in Mount Hill, Pembroke.
His grandmother told The Royal Gazette after the June 16 attack on Friswell’s Hill that he was the intended target then too.
That shooting left his 16-year-old brother and his mother’s 22-year-old boyfriend in hospital with gunshot wounds.
The victims were in the area to pick up the 17-year-old from a nearby house when a gunman opened fire.
According to the 61-year-old grandmother, the other relatives were hit by mistake by the shooter, who was really after the 17-year-old.
“My younger grandson saw the bike and ran down an embankment cliff into a yard. We felt they were trying to get [the older brother],<>we heard a tip that they wanted him over the weekend,” she said at the time. She declined to comment on Monday night’s incident.
The 17-year-old was not injured. He had been arrested earlier this year in connection with two previous shootings, but has not been charged.
The Police confirmed the Friswell’s Hill shooting was gang-related, although they have not commented on Monday night’s incident.
According to a statement, officers responded to reports of the latest shooting, which occurred around 10.30 p.m. in the area of Mount Hill and Overview Hill in Pembroke.
”Upon Police arrival it was ascertained that an unknown male discharged a firearm at a 17-year-old Pembroke man, however the 17-year-old was not injured. The suspect then made good his escape,” it said.
Yesterday morning, forensic officers combed the area to search for bullets and casings.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: “Police responded to reports of a firearms incident that took place. Police cordoned off the area looking for anyone that may have been a person of interest.
”We won’t go into any more details. There’s no other specifics that we’re going to release. We classify it as a confirmed firearm incident. That simply means it’s evidence to suggest there were key witnesses, and/or forensic information to suggest that a gun was actually discharged. No one has been arrested.”
The Royal Gazette has opted not to print the names of the teenagers due to their ages.
The family home in Mount Hill has been the subject of repeated raids this year by Police officers looking for firearms and drugs, though there have been no reports that any were recovered.
One of the raids was conducted just hours after the 16-year-old was released from hospital after the Friswell’s Hill incident.
Both brothers, plus their 37-year-old mother and two other men, are currently facing cannabis possession allegations stemming from a raid at a different venue earlier this year.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information on Monday’s shooting to contact them on 295-0011 or call the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hot line on 800-8477.
