Police have given few details about the horrific killing of the Heathcote Hill resident, otherwise known as "Bugsy'', but again called for help from the public to retrace the victim's final hours.

And they admitted that they may have to bolster the current squad of eight Police detectives working on the case, if progress in tracking down the killer is not made.

Mr. Wolffe, 43, was found by a family member on Wednesday, who had become concerned after he had not seen his relative for several days.

It was later confirmed that he was last seen alive last Friday.

At a press conference yesterday, Det. Ch. Insp. Carlton Adams refused to disclose how the victim had died, and if they were looking for more than one person.

"Mr. Wolffe was brutally murdered. A weapon was used,'' he said.

When asked what the weapon was he said: "I am not prepared to divulge that.'' Det. Ch. Insp. Adams, who is leading the inquiry, again called for assistance in piecing together the victim's final hours.

"Mr. Wolffe was a quiet person who didn't bother other people,'' he said.

"We are now appealing to any members of the public or friends who may assist us in identifying the assailant.'' The officer refused to speculate if the murderer may have been known to Mr.

Wolffe.

He said the murder team is particularly keen to establish his movements after last Friday.

Mr. Wolffe, who was working as a mason at the time of his death, was described by neighbours as a "quiet man'' who was living in a peaceful area.

Officers have conducted house-to-house inquiries and a number of people have already been interviewed.

When asked what reassurances he could offer to Sandys residents, who may be concerned that a murderer was at large in their neighbourhood, he said they were making every effort to bring the matter to a conclusion.

Det. Ch. Insp. Adams said the investigation had been assisted by the presence in Bermuda of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital forensic scientist Dr. John Obafunwa.

"His presence is significant because it means we no longer have to wait to bring in a forensic pathologist from outside,'' he said.

The crime scene has been sealed off since the discovery, as detectives gathered vital evidence and clues from the house.
