Charities House says a big 'thank you'

Slam dunk: Robin Masters and Brian Duperreault in front of the basketball court that Mr. Duperreault donated to Charities House in Point Finger Road.

Those that have made significant donations to Charities House were giving recognition at a special dedication ceremony held at the property in Point Finger Road.

Charities House provides office rental space for a number of charities and in return those charities pay a rent which goes towards paying off the bank loan used to purchase the property for $5.9 million in 2005.

A number of individuals and corporations have made significant donations towards Charities House, which is owned by the Cap-a-Laige Charitable Trust, and at the dedication ceremony those contributions from Brian Duperreault, the XL Foundation and the Bank of Bermuda Foundation were recognised.

"The sole purpose of Cap-a-Laige Charities House is to provide stable, affordable and long-term rental space to Bermuda charities. In so doing, it allows these tenant agencies to focus their resources on community members that need their help," said board member Gail Pantry.

There are currently seven charities using the shared space and facilities at Charities House.

Robin Masters, board chairwoman said: "Fundraising efforts continue in earnest. We were very pleased to receive a challenge grant from The Ace Foundation in the amount of $250,000. We recently sent appeal letters to Corporate Donors seeking their support.

"I am pleased to report that we are very close to realising this full match.

"We invite others in the community to partner with us in this venture which provides an opportunity for your dollars to directly reduce the mortgage, thereby benefiting the charities."
