"IF someone had told me that Tottenham would only have two points after eight games into the season and would be sitting at the bottom of the Premier League I would not have believed them. But that is exactly where they sit and it is shocking considering all the talent they have on their books. It is unexplainable and they are going to have to do something to stop the rot ¿ and do something soon.

Their performance last weekend at Stoke where they lost 2-1 really sums up their season. Not only did they lose 2-1 ¿ it should have been 3-1 given that Stoke missed a penalty ¿ but Spurs also had two men sent off, Gareth Bale and Michael Dawson.

Bale was sent off for bringing down Tom Soares in the box and Danny Higgenbotham put the penalty away but it was Dawson's red card which was unforgivable after a very bad challenge. And Dawson may get more time off after his silly tantrum for the red card. It was a terrible tackle.

How did Spurs get into this position? It is hard to explain ¿ in fact I can't!

But first of all I don't think they should have gotten rid of Martin Jol last season and who is now doing so well at Hamburg. Jol is a very good manager ¿ that is not to say Ramos is not good as well. But then Spurs went and sold Defoe to Portsmouth last January and this summer they sold Robbie Keane to Liverpool and Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United. Those are three top strikers.

But that still doesn't explain it. Spurs have quality players ¿ Bentley, Lennon, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko who they brought in from Russia, Croatia's playmaker Modric, dos Santos who they brought in from Barcelona, Woodgate and of course they got the striker Campbell on loan from Manchester United. Those players are quality but it seems that their minds are on other things ¿ maybe shopping and having fun. They have to knuckle down and get the job done. It is easy to blame the manager but it is not Ramos who is out there on the park.

Last year Spurs were on a high after winning the League Cup beating Chelsea. But if you look at the games since then Spurs have not done well.

At the other end of the spectrum is Hull City.

What a fantastic story. I don't think any team has come up and had the season they are currently enjoying. And to think that Hull have never been in the top flight before! Right now they are in third place with 17 points after beating my boys West Ham last weekend. I do think that West Ham should have got something out of that game but still Hull's start this season is remarkable. They don't have the name players like Spurs but they all work very hard for each other and you can see the results. I take my hat off to them and I know their fans must feel like they are in dreamland.

I have mentioned before that Liverpool seem to a different team this season ¿ they seem to be able to bounce back during a game ¿ they have more steel in their spine and last weekend they showed that resilience again when they came back to beat Wigan 3-2 despite the magnificent goal scored by Egyptian striker Zaki. This could be Liverpool's year. The manager is not chopping and changing as much he has done in the past and they certainly have a quality about them.

And they will need that quality this weekend when they take on Chelsea in the top of the table clash.

Although Liverpool could be without strikers Torres and Keane, who was injured in the Champions League this week, I still expect them to fight hard. Chelsea meanwhile are playing some superb football. They massacred Middlesbrough 5-0 last weekend.

Arsenal seem to find the Champions League easier than the Premiership. Last weekend Everton went ahead and Arsenal struggled for a while before coming back to win 3-1.

This week the Gunners went to Turkey and beat Fenerbahce 5-2. That is not an easy thing to do. It is a very tough place to play but Arsenal looked great. I think one of the reasons they find the Champions League a bit easier is that they have time to play that beautiful game of theirs. In England you get closed down a lot quicker.

ROONEY

After a slow start Manchester United are playing their exciting brand of football now scoring seven goals in their last two games ¿ 3-0 against Celtic this week in the Champions League and 4-0 last weekend against West Brom. A lot of it comes down to Wayne Rooney who also has been banging them in for England.

Rooney is on song right now. He has scored nine goals in his last seven appearances and seems unstoppable. And this weekend he returns to the club of his youth when United visit Goodison Park to take on Everton. And if he scores Rooney will have scored his 100th club goal. Don't bet against him.

BECKHAM

It seems as if former England captain David Beckham will join AC Milan in January when it is the off season for the MLS. Beckham is desperate to keep his England career going and I say all power to him. He is on 107 caps right now ¿ one short of the record 108 for an outfield player by 1966 World Cup-winning captain and my old skipper at West Ham Bobby Moore. However Beckham has started a number of those games on the bench as opposed to Bobby.

While Beckham is getting on in age he does keep himself in very good shape and I would bet that England manager Capello had something to do with him joining AC Milan. While he can't really get past people, Beckham is still one of the best crossers of the ball in the world today and I think he will do well at Milan.

If he does play for them then he would have played for three of the greatest teams in the world ¿ Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan. That is a great opportunity and no doubt he would love to play along side the likes of Brazilian stars Ronaldinho, Kaka and Alexandre Pato, plus Italy's Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso.
