Breaking News: Threat to close Whitney Middle School
Whitney Institute Middle School will close this summer, its board of trustees told the Ministry of Education today, The Royal Gazette understands.
Staff are said to be angry with the increasingly dilapidated state of the building and no longer consider it safe.
The letter is believed to have complained that a proposed multi-million renovation of the 300-pupils school never materialised — and as a result it will shut in June.
The closure is understood to be permanent, although a crisis meeting between trustees and the Ministry is expected to take place tomorrow.
Principal Freddie Evans announced the move to teachers this afternoon.
One teacher present for the announcement told this newspaper: “Of course, there’s utter confusion. Nobody knows where they will be working. There was shock, confusion and anger.”
