Man is reported missing

The Police are appealing for the public's help in locating a missing 28-year-old man.

Pembroke resident Antonio Pacheco was last seen at Bermuda Bistro at The Beach on Front Street in Hamilton on Wednesday around 3 a.m.

Mr. Pacheco is described as a white male with brown hair, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 190 pounds.

He was wearing an orange shirt, white socks, brown shoes and two small earrings in each ear. He also had a thin gold chain around his neck.

Anyone with information on Mr. Pacheco's whereabouts is asked to contact the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.

Teenage sailor rescued

A teenaged sailor was pulled from the ocean on Thursday night after his sailboat capsized.

According to Police, Marine Police and the Bermuda Regiment Boat troop launched a search for the 17-year-old after they received a report of an overturned sailboat near Admiralty House.

The teenager, who had been sailing solo, shouted and whistled for attention as vessels combed the North Shore area for him, using flares to light up the dark ocean.

A Police vessel ended the search at 10.45 p.m. when they found the teenager clinging to the overturned catamaran wearing a life jacket.

A spokesman for Harbour Radio said: "Marine Police found him about a half mile out from the oil docks.

"The whole thing thankfully ended quite well."

He was taken to Marine Unit headquarters uninjured, while the boat was tied to one of the oil dock's mooring buoys.

Water plant reopens after repair

The Tynes Bay Desalination Plant was temporarily shut down after a malfunction left it unable to draw a steady flow of water.

Government said a broken flange on the water supply line for the extraction wells was discovered late Tuesday night.

Crews worked on the problem and were able to get the plant up and running by 2.30 p.m. Wednesday.

President of the Bermuda Water Truckers Association Russ Ford said: "We were well aware of the challenges with the water supply and worked hand in hand with Government regarding a solution."

Campfire warning issued

The public is reminded to exercise caution when having campfires or bonfires in the Island's parks.

The Department of Parks issued a warning, asking campers to be careful over the Cup Match weekend.

"If people ignore the guidelines and create hazards, permission to hold campfires or bonfires in the parks will be suspended," a spokesperson said.

A permit must be obtained from the Department of Parks in order to have a bonfire legally, he said.

All fires must be in or on a metal surface or container no larger than four feet, and should not be directly on grass or sand.

Wooden pallets, tin, glass and aerosol cans should not be in the fire, and the fires must be thoroughly extinguished, with water poured over the coals and soaked coals left in a metal trash can.

No fires are permitted on John Smith's Bay Park and Beach.
