FIFA boss sorrow at pair’s gun deaths

FIFA president Sepp –Blatter has sent a letter of condolence to the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) offering his unwavering –support and sympathy –following the murder of two of the Island’s young players.PHC striker Jason Smith, 22, was shot dead on May just a month after North Village midfielder Randy Robinson, also 22, was gunned down.“It is with a sad heart that I write to you today, having learned of the senseless –murder of Jason Smith and Randy Robinson,” said –president Blatter in a letter.“On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide football family, I wish to extend our –condolences to you, to the Bermuda football community, and most of all, to Jason Smith and Randy Robinson’s family, friends and loved ones.”“Please let them (the –family and friends of the –deceased) know that today the football community stands by their side,” Blatter added.“We would hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”Blatter’s condolences were read out at Smith’s funeral last week.Larry Mussenden, the BFA president, said he spoke with Blatter about the recent killings at last week’s Concacaf Ordinary Congress in Miami.“I was at the Concacaf Congress when I heard the news about Mr Smith,” said Mussenden.“I discussed the issue with president Blatter and, as a result, he sent a letter of condolences to us to pass on.“We were able to communicate the letter to the Smith family which was read out at as a tribute at his funeral. Once the original copy arrives we will pass it on to the clubs and both families.“On behalf of the football family of Bermuda, we offer our condolences to both families.”
