yesterday after they admitted possession of cocaine and drug equipment.

Neville Richardson, 26, admitted possession of cocaine, a glass pipe, baking soda, a razor blade and a $1 bill.

Quinton Wade, 29, admitted possession of cocaine in crack and powder form but denied it was for supply. He also admitted possession of a small amount of cannabis.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said Supreme Court, recognising the danger crack presents to the community, had dealt harshly with those charged with possession of it.

The Court heard Narcotics Officers, acting on information received, went to Wade's Elliott Street, Hamilton home at about 8 p.m. on February 17.

They busted through the door when no one answered their bangs but they could see Wade and Richardson moving around "frantically''.

Drug equipment and a plastic twist with cocaine inside was found on the kitchen counter.

Eight rocks of cocaine -- crack -- were found in Wade's trouser pocket and a plastic twist with powder cocaine was found in his jacket pocket.

More cocaine and a paper twist with plant material inside were found in a container in the bedroom.

Sgt. James said the cocaine and crack weighed a total of 3.81 grams and had a street value of more than $400. The cannabis was found to weigh .17 grams. And traces of cocaine were found on the drug equipment.

Sgt. James said it appeared the two men had been smoking drugs. And he said it was "clear'' from the drug equipment found at the house that the two men had intended to "manufacture crack''.

Noting their previous convictions for drug-offences, he called them "habitual drug offenders''.

In light of their past convictions, Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said he had no choice but to sentence them to prison.

He sentenced Richardson to four months in prison, and Wade to seven months.
