Store raided in broad daylight
A man wearing a thick jacket with "Rookie" written on the bag grabbed $300 from the till at the Cecile's store on Thursday morning before running off
Police are appealing for witnesses to the raid at the Front Street store which took place at 10.25 a.m.
The dark-skinned male was also carrying a black helmet. Witnesses should call 295 0011.
Web warning
Police are warning parents to monitor their children's Internet use after finding youngsters were creating websites with violent and sexual messages.
Spokesman Dwayne Caines said the sites featured sexual chat and people performing gang gestures with their hands.
He said parents shouldn't assume their children were working on educational projects when they were glued to their computers.
Not guilty plea
A 21-year-old Warwick man faces a Magistrates' Court trial after he pleaded not guilty to two drug possession charges.
Dejean Smith, of Spice Hill Road is charged with possessing cannabis and cocaine with intent to supply in Pembroke on April 10, 2004.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Smith on $5,000 bail to reappear for his trial at 9.30 a.m. on May 17.
Visitor in the dock
An American visitor was fined $1,500 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after admitting to importing cannabis into the Island.
Bruce Edward Miranda, 56, of Albourne Avenue, Staten Island, New York smuggled 5.13 grams of cannabis with a street value of $250 down the front of his trousers.
Crown counsel Shakira Dill said Miranda was stopped by a drug-sniffing dog in the Customs Hall of the Bermuda International Airport on Wednesday, March 16.
Customs Officers observed that he was nervous and shaky.
"He even dropped his carry-on bag at one point," Ms Dill said.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Miranda to pay his fine or spend three months in prison.
Driver fined
A Fairylands woman was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving all vehicles in Magistrates' Court yesterday after she pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
At 12.50 a.m. on February 19, Jennifer Crawford, 31, of Pembroke, was riding a motorcycle on North Shore Road in Devonshire when she collided with the back of a car.
Police smelled intoxicants on Crawford's breath and her eyes were glazed after the collision.
"The defendant was unable to stand and had to sit on a wall," Crown counsel Shakira Dill said.
Crawford's lowest breathalyser reading was 189 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner banned Crawford from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
