94 students make school honour roll

Friday, November 30, 2007 was a very exciting day because it was the Honours Assembly, honouring all students who had gained an average of 80 percent or higher. I felt very happy and nervous at the same time, because I knew I had done well, but I did not know if I had done well enough to get on the Honours Roll.

Mr. Robinson took my class down to the Assembly Hall to wait for the Honours Assembly to begin. The Middle 1 students were the first to be called up, followed by the M2s and M3s. A total of 94 students made the honour role.

Mr. Robinson called my name and a few other boys' names from a list. I had to sit down on a bench and wait. Five minutes passed, which seemed like a long time because I was excited and impatient for it to begin, and then Mr. Robinson and school principal, Jeannette Musson, called the honour students' names while another teacher shook hands with the honour students and gave them their certificate.

It took a long time for Mr. Robinson to get to the boys because there were only six M1 boys who got on the Honour Roll and a lot of girls who were all called first. The six boys were Jahmair Trott, Kenny Sousa, Jomeko Gomes, Antoine Jackson, Rai Simons and myself.

Mr. Robinson called Kenny and Jahmair (who are both in my class) to come up and get their Honour Certificate; right after them Mr. Robinson called my name! I was very happy to get my Honour Certificate. Soon after I got the certificate, I shook hands with the teacher and sat down on the bench. I read my certificate; it said: "Dominic Tessitore has achieved an average of 89.18 percent in all of his classes in this school term."

When I looked up I saw Ms Kelly, my debating teacher, next to Mr. Robinson. She was handing him some more certificates to do with the debating team.

Next he called the debating team members who were Samuel Bailey, Vinagrace Parayaoan and me. We all got medals and debating certificates.

Then all the honour students went outside and got their pictures taken. I was very happy about my average and getting on the Honour R oll.

I missed the Deputy Honor roll by one percent, but there is always the next time!
