Bermuda Under-18s crushed by USA in Match Play tourney

USA, 63-4, beat Bermuda, 60 all out, by six wicketsBermuda ended their participation in the Under-18 ICC Associates Match Play Tournament in Florida on a losing note, going down heavily to the United States yesterday.The defeat came only three days after the Island team had thumped the same side by 115 runs.Bermuda won the toss and elected to bat but there were early signs that this would not be their day as opener Shaquille Jones was dropped on the first and third balls of the first over before going on to make 13 the only batsman to reach double figures in an innings that lasted only 29.1 overs.Christian Burgess, who opened with Jones, was out for a three-ball duck in the second over and William White and Tre Manders also had short visits to the crease as Bermuda slumped to 13-3, then 29-4.Captain Joshua Gilbert was run out by a direct hit at the non-striker’s end. Left-hander Alex Dore had a two-ball duck in the middle order while Delray Rawlins, the fourth left-hander in the top seven, added a second-high contribution of nine.There were 15 extras in the Bermuda innings as three US bowlers took two wickets apiece; Arsh Buch (2-12), Vibhav Altekar (2-12) and Ryan Persaud (2-14).Bermuda took the early wicket of Shakeel Ahmad who fell to a Zeko Burgess catch off captain Joshua Gilbert, but a brisk 20 by captain Steven Taylor put the US firmly on course for victory before he was run out at the bowler’s end when a straight drive by Krish Goel was deflected onto the stumps by bowler Kwasi James.Goel (17 not out) finished the game with a six over square leg off Demeiko James as US won in 18.2 overs.Spinner Delray Rawlins claimed two wickets for Bermuda.The final match of the tournament sees the US taking on unbeaten Canada today at the Central Broward Rgional Park in Lauderhill.
