England, Holland share the points after thrilling finish
England 182 Holland 182 The International Youth Tournament recorded its first tied match yesterday when England and Holland shared the points after a thrilling finish at White Hill Field.
However, it wasn't until chief umpire Luther Wilkin was summoned from nearby Somerset Cricket Club that the result was confirmed after a discussion began between team officials as to whether run rate would be used to determine an outright winner. Wilkin explained that the ICC domestic rules were being applied to the tournament.
Holland went into the last few overs looking the more likely winners, but Joe Tucker enjoyed a decisive second spell for England as he blew open the match by taking four of the last five wickets -- all bowled.
Holland slumped from a comfortable 170-5 to 182 all out on the second ball of the last over when Tucker bowled Faisal Zaman. Tucker bowled a wide on the first ball of the last over to tie the match as Holland went into that over needing two for victory.
"I thought it was a fantastic game,'' said Holland coach David Trist afterwards.
"England were still confident with 182 but our boys batted with commendable patience. I thought the tie was a fair result. "Any game that finishes in the last over with a wicket, that's magnificent. Although we didn't carry it through it was a fantastic day on a beautiful ground.'' High men for Holland were Victor Grandia with 42 and Ejaz Nawaz with 41 while Tucker finished with four for 31 from 8.2 overs.
Earlier, top bats for England were Michael Gough with 39, opener Graham Napier with 24 and Giles Haywood and Tucker with 21 and 21 not out. Nawaz claimed three for 25, Grandia two for 31 and Jurriaan Geleijnse two for 29.
Canada 207 Denmark 211-6 Denmark posted the highest total by a team batting second in the tournament to send Canada crashing to their fourth straight defeat at Somerset yesterday.

Opening bowler David Christiansen claimed four for 36 for Denmark while Peter Thomsen took two for 42.
Steady batting by Denmark carried them to their second win in the tournament by the 48th over as Amjad Khan stroked five boundaries in his 49, putting on 88 for the sixth wicket with Omer Farooq who finished with 36 not out.
Open Jesper Hansen scored 40, captain Max Overgaard 25 and Peter Thomsen 24.
