BFA keen to see job candidates in action
The hunt for Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) youth director will move to the training pitch with candidates being tasked to demonstrate their skills by performing a coaching session.
Having run the rule over the hopefuls – believed to be Andrew Bascome, Richard Todd, Mark Jennings and Vance Brown – during the first round of interviews, the BFA now want to see if the coaches' actions speak as loud as their words.
The search for the youth director was initially delayed following the election of Richard Calderon to the BFA presidency but it's understood the new man could be onboard by January – to coincide with the completion of Gym Field later this month, which will be Bermuda football's training headquarters.
The youth director's role will include the responsibility of coaching the women's national team and a remit to develop girls' football on the Island which is an area where both Vance Brown, a former women's national team coach, and Richard Todd have plenty of experience.
Boulevard boss Andrew Bascome has also applied to become the national team coach, as well as Bermuda Hogges supremo Kyle Lightbourne.
Technical director Derek Broadley said the interview process for the national team coach would start when the youth director's position had been filled.
"We've completed the first round of interviews and we're now looking to see how the candidates perform in a practical situation with players," said Broadley.
"The job is predominantly practical based so it makes sense to see them in action on the training pitch. We're waiting for a break in the schools schedule so we can organise what will be the second stage of the interview process."
He added: "Once we've sorted out the youth director's position we will look at the position of national team coach.
"There hasn't been any real rush as we're waiting for the artificial pitch at Gym Field to be completed. There would be no point making both appointments and then having the guys twiddling their thumbs.
"These are two vital parts of the jigsaw we're piecing together."
