Man hurt after violence flares near popular city park
A brutal attack took place yesterday afternoon in the Par-La-Ville Park area which left one man needing hospital treatment for a head wound.
Police received a report of the assault around 3 p.m. As of last night they said the details of the incident were unclear, however they have arrested a 23-year-old Devonshire man.
An eyewitness contacted the Royal Gazette saying a man had been stabbed, but Police have not confirmed this.
It was reported on last night's VSB TV news that there were three men involved in the attack, one armed with a bottle.
The injured man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Patches of blood could be seen in the park while Police also recovered a screwdriver at the scene.
An accountant, who would only give his first name as Neil, said he was shocked by the outbreak of violence, which shattered the peace of the park.
"You sort of expect it to happen in different parts of town at night time, but not in the middle of the day.
"I am amazed people are so brazen to do this kind of thing without fear of being seen or caught. Maybe it's got to a level where they don't have a fear of being caught – that their grudge or whatever has taken over."
Antoine Bean was in the library when Police made an arrest just outside. He said he was not shocked that things had reached this level but feared people would just see it as another thing to gossip about.
"We have not been paying attention on this issue for so long that they are going to encroach into the middle of Hamilton in the middle of the day. It is going to happen if you don't deal with them correctly."
