GPS an excellent idea
July 2, 2003
Dear Sir,
I work for a company whose vehicles are all equipped with GPS, and I personally think it's an excellent idea.
Not only can the dispatcher see at a glance where each and every vehicle is at any given time, but, if a driver is having difficulty finding a particular house, the dispatcher can locate the said house on the GPS screen and guide the vehicle to it.
GPS in taxis makes sense to me. Why waste time calling for a taxi to go to a specific location, when one glance at a screen can show which taxi is closest? Has anyone yet figured out just why the taxi drivers are so opposed to GPS?
It couldn't possibly be because someone can see exactly where they are, as opposed to where they say they are: could it?
