Edward Rance named Rhodes Scholar

Edward Rance has been named Bermuda's Rhodes Scholar for 2008 by the Bermuda Rhodes Scholarship selection committee.

Mr. Rance, who graduated from Saltus Grammar School in 2003, has gone on to complete the International Baccalaureate at Sevenoaks School in the UK with a nearly perfect score and is now studying at Fitzwilliam College at the University of Cambridge.

Along with his academic achievements, Mr. Rance has been involved with the Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra as a cellist, represented Fitzwilliam as a member of their Mens First VIII rowing team, and he now sings with the Fitzwilliam College Chapel Choir. Over summers, Mr. Rance has taught English as a second language in Argentina, Hong Kong and China.

Next on Mr. Rance's growing list of accomplishments, he plans to study at Balliol College and read for a Masters in English at Oxford University, with the end goal of a career in writing.s
