Two-goal Tucker spearheads Trojans
North Village crashed to their fourth home defeat in their last five matches at Bernard Park yesterday, while Somerset's victory left them on top of the table as the leading qualifiers for the Dudley Eve competition.
Trojans' demolition job was spearheaded by skipper Reggie Tucker who snatched two goals, both headers, the second after 60 minutes to finish Village off.
Tucker had given the Trojans a 1-0 lead after 13 minutes and Duane Deroza made it 2-0 after 49 minutes.
But Village had only themselves to blame as they should have finished the first half in front after pinning down their opponents for much of that period.
Skipper Elliott Jennings and Maceo Dill were in positions to score on numerous occasions but blew their chances by placing shots either wide, high or at goalkeeper Andre Henderson.
During the early stages, Village pressed hard with Jennings directing a shot at Henderson after six minutes and Dill getting robbed by the advancing 'keeper after being put through by efficient full back Richard Todd.
It was against the run of play that Somerset scored after 13 minutes with Tucker coolly heading home a cross by Rodney Bascome after a quick counter attack.
Village continued to advance with relative ease, particularly down the right flank where plenty of room was allowed for Todd and Dill to start raids. But the good build-ups led to little success.
After Dill had a shot blocked by Henderson, Somerset came close with Randy Simmons having a fierce drive palmed away by Gladwin Edness in the Village goal after 34 minutes -- one of the few chances the West Enders created in the first half.
But Village finished the half strongly with Todd and Jennings firing shots wide and over the goal from just outside the box.
Village received a severe jolt after 49 minutes when Todd fouled defender Duane Deroza and referee Rex Osborne awarded a penalty. Deroza made his spot kick good to put Somerset 2-0 ahead.
The Red Devils now became unsettled and the bottom fell out after 60 minutes when Tucker headed the Trojans 3-0 in front after Bascome and Randy Simmons teamed up on the left flank.
The home side showed signs of frustration but after Trojans' centre-half Paul Place was sent off after 75 minutes for a vicious foul on Maceo Dill, Village regained the initiative.
Todd crashed a shot off the bar from 17 yards after 79 minutes, but that was the lone feature of Village's fightback during the final stages.
