White captured the Miami Olympic Star Class Regatta in Biscayne Bay, Florida yesterday.

The Bermuda sailors compiled a pair of breathtaking third place finishes on the event's final day, enabling them to make the leap from third place to top spot.

"We're on top of the world,'' said an elated Bromby last night.

"We've been working hard all along and we've been closing in on it. Last year we had two seconds in two big regattas but we've never won one. We had a helluva regatta.

"I think we're going to hang out a little bit (tonight).'' Bromby offered special praise to his long-time partner White as the pair defeated some of the world's best sailors to win the event.

Finishing in second place was current world champion Ross MacDonald of Canada, third was American Vince Brunn and fourth Olympic gold medallist Mark Reynolds.

The Bermuda sailors jumped into first place after yesterday's first race, building a three point lead they would never relinquish.

"It was quite nice,'' said Bromby of the last race. "We got to the first weather mark in the lead and that's when we started feeling quite confident.'' The two champions return to the Island today following a spectacular trip which also saw them win the Olympic training regatta in St. Petersburg, Florida a week ago.

They'll compete in the Bacardi Cup in Florida in a few weeks' time before taking part in the Pan American Games in Argentina next month, where they will sail in the J24 class.
