Roque's nerve tested Wby runaway Tuxedo
the second half of the day's programme proving to be one of the most exciting of the year.
Eddie The Great, driven by Michael DeCosta, and Shamrock Tuxedo, with Eddie Roque aboard, provided the most exciting fireworks.
Eddie The Great, after drawing pole position, won both heats of the fastest time bar, and with Shamrock Tuxedo now shares the greatest number of wins (six) this year.
In the second heat Roque was unable to hold onto his hand grips because of the wet weather. He warned DeCosta that he was unable to control Tuxedo, taking off the dangerously wet track at a breakneck pace, and waiting for the pony to tire.
After three-and-a-half laps Tuxedo finally slowed down so officials could flag him down.
The experience proved a frightening one for Roque but his experience and cool nerves helped him overcome what could have been a dangerous situation.
Roque's stablemates unofficially timed the pony and clocked Tuxedo at 1:04 at the half mile, besting the track record by an amazing three seconds.
Eddie The Great easily won the second heat, with Tuxedo clearly exhausted from her earlier exploits.
Pondababe won the first heat of the junior free-for-all, pressed all the way by Melody Time. Gusto's Cracker Jack came in third. The tables turned in the second heat when Cracker Jack, driven by Bobby DeGraffe, sneaked past Pondababe and Melody Time in the late stages of the race.
A/B's Elite and Annie Sousa won both their heats in the 1:24 bar while Todd's Ebony, with Timmy Boyles, also won each heat in the 1:20 bar.
Just a Gigolo, driven by Fernando Rego, won both heats against Penny's Wildwood and new driver Raymond Tucker.
Bermuda Warrior (Francis DeSilva) took the first heat of the 1:16 bar but Bad Boy Tony (Nicholas DeCosta) proved unbeatable in the second race. Ell Dee's Mary Ellen (Joseph Viera) finished a disappointing third in both heats.
Direct Toy Boy with Michael Roberts made a triumphant return to the track, winning both heats of the B Division in the 1:16 bar.
