NDC acting executive officer Derrick Binns revealed this yesterday at Hamilton Rotary's weekly luncheon at Pier Six.

Dr. Binns, who brought the club up-to-date on the NDC's past initiatives and future plans, later told The Royal Gazette that minors should at least not be allowed in the liquor section of supermarkets or in restaurants unless they are accompanied by an adult.

The NDC has forwarded and other recommendations to the Human Affairs Ministry which is looking at amending the Liquor Licensing Act.

It has also repeated suggestions that the sale of miniatures be prohibited, Dr. Binns said.

He also informed the Rotary audience about the first phase of the NDC's new treatment information system.

"(The system will be) focusing on collecting information about persons who present themselves for treatment,'' Dr. Binns explained. "This system will prove to be the foundation for the evaluation and quality enhancement of the local treatment programmes.'' He added that in the near future the NDC will conduct its second National Study in order to evaluate Bermuda's adult population's "experiences with and attitudes toward alcohol, tobacco and other drugs''.

In conjunction with this, Dr. Binns noted that the NDC will soon announce the overall results of its fifth student survey, which this year included data from the new middle schools as well as the senior schools.
