The event, which will take place at the Southampton Princess Hotel on Saturday, December 17, will also involve a host of overseas fighters. The United States Naval Air Station, Massachusetts State Police, and the Massachusetts Department of Corrections will provide fighters as well as the local "boys in blue''.

As usual, there will be a number of challenge matches involving novices from the ranks of the Bermuda Police, but there will also be a sizeable amount of experienced boxers.

The headline bout is being billed as a battle of the giants, featuring veteran Donville Yarde of Bermuda against big Scott Teft, representing the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.

Another highly anticipated affair will be the bout matching Stuart Crockwell, a sergeant, against constable Garic Swainson in a challenge match.

"If the pre-fight talk between these fighters is anything to go by, we should be in for quite a battle,'' said fight committee member Craig Morfitt in a press release.

Meanwhile, Billy Tempest-Mitchell will be fighting in a rematch against Massachusetts State Trooper John Kotfila.

One disappointment has been the forced withdrawal of Russ Matthews from his scheduled battle against veteran slugger Merv Dickinson. Proclaimed tough guy Matthews has been struck down by a rib injury sustained playing rugby.

Dickinson will now face Kevin Witt of the USNAS.

Spectators can expect both style and substance when the navy's Tom (Repo Man) Respondek steps into the ring against trooper Charles Dance.

Tickets are still available for the black tie event. Application forms are available from the various police stations and Police Recreation Clubs. For further information contact Craig Morfitt at Central CID or Mike DeSilva at the Police Training School.
