Bermuda frustrated in 0-0 draw with Bahamas

Bermuda played to a goalless draw against Bahamas in their second friendly match at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, last night.

Chances not taken: Kyle Lightbourne

Bermuda were looking to make it two wins out of two after their 3-0 success in the first game on Friday, but found their opponents equally determined to get a good result.

“They just really played to keep us out,” Kyle Lightbourne, the Bermuda coach, said. “In the end we created quite a few chances, but we didn’t take them.

“The attitude, especially in the second half was good. The whole exercise for us was good. We needed games because most of the guys haven’t played in two or three months.”

Unlike the first match on Friday, Bermuda did not make as many substitutions in the second half, although Lightbourne was happy that players got useful time on the pitch. In the first game the starting team played for 55 minutes before 11 new players were brought on.

“Some guys got 90 minutes tonight, so I’m happy with that,” he said. “We were only allowed seven subs tonight, so not everybody got minutes. But it was a useful exercise.

“We controlled the match, had the majority of possession but didn’t put the ball into the back of the net. It was pleasing because we had to keep going to the end and the last ten minutes we created quite a few chances, but didn’t take them.”

Bermuda will return home today to continue preparations for the World Cup qualifier against Canada in Orlando on March 25.

Bermuda starting XI (4-4-1-1): J Hill — R Jones, D Leverock, J Bather, C Minors — J Lawrence-Salaam, W Clemons, J Furbert, K Scott — R Coddington, E Russell.
