Newly elected president of Bermuda Bicycle Association, Carlos DeSilva, has assured that plans to boost the Island's junior programme are well underway.

Already DeSilva has scheduled a meeting with parents of young riders in January while the BBA also hopes to go directly into the schools with the aim of recruiting new faces.

"We've had a pretty good reception from the parents in this regard, and we intend to really push forward with our development plans,'' said DeSilva.

The new season gets underway in February with the first major event being the Front Street race.

When elected, DeSilva listed among his goals the establishment of a better programme for the international riders. He also listed as a priority his intention to improve the BBA's fund-raising endeavours by approaching more potential corporate sponsors.
