Perozzi too classy for rival Harris

Aim, set and fire: Bermuda's Teresa Perozzi throws a jab at her opponent CImberly Harris. Perozzi won by a unanimous decision at Berkeley Gym on Saturday night in her first fight in more than two years.

Bermuda boxer Teresa Perozzi dominated American slugger Cimberley Harris from the opening bell to win by a unanimous decision in front of a disappointing crowd at Berkeley Gym on Saturday night.

The 37-year-old displayed a few early signs of ring-rust – understandable considering her two-year hiatus – but never looked threatened by the rough-and-tumble style of Tampa Bay brawler Harris who threw far fewer punches than her opponent.

Perozzi, who improved her record to 7-3-1, always looked capable of stepping up another gear and admitted her comfortable six-round win over Harris had felt like a 'breeze'.

"I was happy with the win but I need to have more confidence in my fitness because I felt I could have given a lot more out there," said Perozzi, whose bout was the main event of promoter Reuben Bean's Smashdown show.

"You hold back a little bit because you want to get through the rounds and to be honest it felt like a breeze to me.

"I felt really in control and I knew I could handle her power but I think my execution could have been a little better at times."

A re-match against the lowly-ranked Harris could be on the cards after Perozzi said she would be more than happy to fight her again in Bermuda.

The pair had been scheduled to lock horns on the Island in 2007 but Harris mysteriously pulled out of the deal at the last minute.

"She was a good opponent for me as I hadn't fought for two years and I need to work on my confidence," said middleweight Perozzi.

"Reuben wants to do some more fights and I think we need to step up the promoting and get it out there a bit more.

"It would have been nice to see a bigger crowd but hopefully this win will get everyone a bit more excited for when I fight again.

"I'd totally give her (Harris) a re-match.

"I feel she's a good opponent as I normally don't do particularly well against brawlers and prefer to fight boxers that move around."

Harris, 42, had hoped to 'rough-up' Perozzi but was never allowed to fire off enough punches to sufficiently trouble her rival.

"I think if I'd thrown a few more punches I could have came out of it a little better," said Harris, who was also defeated in her previous fight against the 'Coal Miners Daughter' Christy Martin.

"I don't feel injured in any way and if she had fought me head-to-head I think I could have done better.

"She did a little running but threw more jabs than me. My plan didn't really come through but I'd certainly like to get a re-match in Bermuda.

"Bermuda's a lovely place and the people have been very nice to me."
