an effort to qualify for the Bank of Butterfield Front Street Mile races next month.

This weekend's trials on Saturday and Sunday will see athletes race in six categories -- primary school girls and boys, secondary school girls and boys and senior male and female.

Defending champion Neil Halliday will be among those who line up in the senior male trials along with Jamal Hart and Neil De Ste. Croix who finished second and third respectively last year.

They'll be joined by Steve Burgess, who normally performs as the "rabbit'' in the men's elite mile, and Sharif Taylor who was second in the secondary boys division last year but now moves up to the adult division.

Jennifer Fisher, last year's senior female champion, is again in the field along with Jane Christie, third last year, former winner Karen Adams and Donna Watson.

Michael Donawa will be back to defend his secondary boys title and Tyler Butterfield the primary boys title.

In the secondary girls division, Suella Matthews, Heidi Madeiros and Elisha Miller, second, third and fourth respectively a year ago, are seen as the top entrants along with Laura Turner, Jarita Dill and Velvet Smith, while Emma Rego should be the top qualifier among primary girls.
